DNA: Candis Waugh has an Anestry.com DNA match with J.M. who has a Lachlan McDonald (born about 1821 on Mull) in their tree. We have not been able to identify the common ancestor.

Captain Coll Macdonald ("owner of the sloop Mary Anne of Greenock" as per the marriage certificate of Mary Macdonald and John McCormick) and Janet McCormick were probably married about 1792. Coll Macdonald was enumerated in the 1779 Duke of Argyll's Census as a 14 year old living at in Ulvalt (or Uluvalt), Mull. Ulvalt is located at the head of Loch Scridain in Broloss next to the Ross of Mull and not far from Suie. - from MullFamilies.co.uk

Janet McCormick's parents were Neil McCormick (farmer) and Ann Livingston. Neil McCormick and Ann Livingston had at least four children: a daughter born about 1762; another daughter born about 1764; Janet (born about 1772 in Tirghoil); and Hugh (born about 1768 in Suie). Neil McCarmaig was enumerated in the 1779 Duke of Argyll's Census in Suie, Argyllshire, Scotland with his wife and daughters. Neil McCarmaig died after 1779 at Suie, Kilfinichen & Kilvickeon, Argyllshire, Scotland.  There is a Liviston listed in the "List of Recruits in Mull & Morvern for the Regiment The Fencible Men of Argyleshire 1759 & 1760" in the Ross of Mull at Ardchivaig. - from Mull Genealogy

During the initial site clearance for the building of the Suidhe Farm Cottages holiday cottage development to the South of the Suidhe settlement, two charcoal pits and a flint knife were uncovered; charcoal from the pits was sent for carbon dating and revealed that the timber had been cut approximately 4500 years BC... Also close by the site, to the Southwest, is a prehistoric Barrow, some 7,000 years old, with two standing stones clearly visible on its NNE side. The barrow, now covered in grass, measures 22m by 19m and stands to a height of 1m, with a slightly hollowed centre. The following photographs show the standing stones as they can be seen today, firstly from the bottom of the hill to the South, and secondly close to. The barrow and the standing stones are also the subject of a (separate) scheduling order, and are therefore also a scheduled ancient monument. - from The depopulated township at Suidhe

1816 ..........

Alexander Macdonald & Marion McLean

Alexander Macdonald (a "Master Mariner") married Marion McLean on on Dec 26, 1816 in Kilfinichen. Alexander was from Tirghoil and Marion from Uisken. Alexander and Marion had at least one child: John (christened Nov 10, 1819) in Kilfinichen. Apparently, Alexander also had a "natural" child with Mary McFadyen named Malcolm born Aug 11, 1811.

Alexander is about 18 years of age when he has a relationship with Mary McFadyen (b.abt.1780), who also lived on Ulvalt, which results in the birth of Malcolm McDonald, their ‘natural son’, who is my great, great Grandfather. I can find nothing further until the June 1841 Census when we find Malcolm, his wife Isabella, 1st son Alexander together with his mother Mary McPhadyen (note spelling). - Grahame Macdonald, Australia, Dec 28, 2014 Ulvalt is a farm just at the head of Loch Seriden on Mull. In the 1779 Duke of Argyll's census Coll Macdonald was living at Ulvalt with his brothers (from Grahame Macdonald). Malcolm died on Aug 16, 1888, in Camaghael, Kilmallie, Argyllshire.

Marion's parents were Duncan and Mary McLean. They had at least three children: Catherine (born about 1783, died Sept 26, 1875 in Bentinck Township, Ontario); Janet (born about 1786, died May 14, 1869, in Bunessan, Kilfinichen & Kilvickeon); and Marion (born aout 1790), all born in Kilfinichen & Kilvickeon, Isle of Mull. - Mull Families
